Volunteers Needed for Keith Preserve Cleanup
Neighborhood volunteers are assisting the city's Parks Department staff with the cleanup of the new Bill Keith Preserve. One Saturday morning each month is devoted to this project. The volunteer turnout is usually good and the project is moving along nicely (see the Photo Gallery ). The work starts at 8 AM and continues til around noon. Most of the work involves cutting down and removing unwanted trees and brush. City staff members man the chain saws and chipper, while the volunteers, under the leadership of neighbor Mike Chamberlin, haul the cuttings to the chipper. The work is hard, but the crew gets in the spirit of the project, and everyone works at their own pace. A schedule of monthly cleanup dates is posted on our home page. Please mark these dates on your calendar and lend us a hand with this important neighborhood project. The cleanup is also an opportunity for school kids to get some community service hours.
